Director of Coastal Dance of Dartmouth, N.S. since 1994, Micaela began training under the direction of Nora Oakey, ARAD, T.Dip. and was a founding member of Halifax Dance YoCo.She continued her professional training at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, Banff Centre for the Arts and graduated from École Supérieure de Danse du Québec. She has also studied in Germany, Toronto, Pennsylvania, and New York. She holds her Royal Academy of Dance Advanced 2 as well as her Russian Advanced certificate. She is an elected Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance. Micaela has been a recipient of several Nova Scotia Talent Trust Awards, The Banff Centre for the Arts Scholarship, the MT&T New Choreographers award and Canada Council Emerging Artist award as well as Nova Scotia Arts Council grants.

Micaela has performed professionally with Les Grands Ballet Canadiens, Les Jeune Ballets de Quebec and at the Toronto Fringe Festival of Independent Artists (Ffida), Halifax Live Art & the Atlantic Fringe Festival.

Dancers from Coastal Dance have studied world wide attending some of the most prestigious schools and professional companies in the world such as The Juilliard School, Boston Ballet, The National Ballet school of Canada, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, Toronto Dance Theatre and Netherlands Dance Theatre II, Albert Ballet II.

Artistic Advisor : 

Nora Oakey B.A., ARAD  RTS


Nora Oakey, trained under Lusia Pavlychenko in Saskatoon and Celia Franca at the National Ballet School. She performed with the Banff Centre Opera under the direction of Gweneth Lloyd and Betty Farrally. Mrs. Oakey holds her RAD Advanced Certificate as well as her RAD Teaching Diploma. An Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance, she directed Scotia Ballet Studio from 1982-1992 before helping Micaela establish Coastal Dance as its Artistic Advisor. A much loved and respected teacher, her wisdom and generosity continue to guide and shape young dancers.

Carol Jedidi RTS: Ballet

Born in England , Carol Jedidi first trained under Bettie Vowles at the Westbury School of Dance and Drama in Bristol . She then moved on to train full time at the Urdang Academy of Performing Arts in Covent Garden , London , for three years , gaining her RAD registered teachers Certificate. A brief performing experience took her to Tunisia , North Africa ,where she met her husband and settled down ,opening and running for many years ,the only dance school in Tunisia to offer an internationally recognized dance programe . In 2008, to escape the unsettled political environment in the region , she and her family moved to Nova Scotia where they settled and have been living ever since . Teaching in many of the dance schools in and around Halifax , she became in 2012, an Associate of The Society of Russian Ballet .

Julia Colpitts: Jazz , Modern ,  Ballet 

Julia began her training at Coastal Dance at the age of 4, where she has studied many styles of dance including ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, and lyrical. At age 13 Julia became a full member of Coastal Dance Theatre Society and performed many lead roles in productions such as "The Nutcracker", "Alice in Winterland", and "A Christmas Carol". Julia volunteered under the teachers assistant program for several years, and holds her Royal Academy of Dance Advanced 2 certificate.






Karla Hodge : Jazz

Karla Hodge is a Contemporary Jazz and Musical Theatre Choreographer/Teacher who has worked professionally in both theatre and dance for over twenty years. Karla has choreographed many full length productions including; Grease, Hair, Urine town and most recently Bare. Her contemporary work has been performed by many local pre-professional dance and theatre companies in the city. Karla has donated her time to the arts community by sitting on many Board of Directors including; The Preston Arts Theatre Board, Kinetic Studio Board, Coastal Dance Theatre Society and The Woods. Karla has trained in Royal Academy of Dance for over twenty years with Micaela Archer-Shee & Nora Oakey and had muliti-discipline modern, jazz and hip hop training from  Peggy Baker, Jayson Wright, and Lenny de la Pena.

Jordan Horne - Jr. Hip hop

Jordan Horne is trained in ballet, modern, jazz, and hip hop. She began dancing at Coastal Dance in 2005 and became a member of Coastal Dance Theatre Society in 2013. She started teaching Hip Hop at Coastal in 2015. Continuing her training She has attended workshops with  'The Woods' and  Raw Motion Dance Workshops. She attended Ross Creek Dance Summer Dance,  Quinte Ballet School summer intensive and Ballet Jörgen summer intensive IV . She has been  local participant with Ballet Jörgen's  Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty. 






Robyn Zwicker: Yoga

Robyn


Robyn is passionate about sharing her love of yoga with children. She has been teaching children for over 20 years as she is also a teacher with the Halifax Regional School Board. Robyn is a 200 hour certified yoga teacher as well as 95 hour certified children's yoga teacher.

Georgia Skinner :  Modern 

Originally from Halifax, Georgia Skinner trained in classical dance since age three at Castal Dance and continued to train in contemporary, modern, ballet (RAD) and hip hop through high school. She graduated from The School of Toronto Dance Theatre’s Professional Training Program in 2014 where she worked with many esteemed dance artists such as Christopher House, Darryl Tracy, Robert Desrosiers, and Ted Robinson. She travelled to various Canadian cities for dance training during her years in school, and is currently basing her professional career in her hometown. She has also this past summer attended ImPulsTanz International Dance Festival in Vienna, Austria for professional development training and was greatly inspired by teachers such as Doris Uhlich, Phillippe Riera, Clara Furey, Peter Jasko, Bruno Caverna, and others.
